So, Gentle Readers, it appears that the sojourn will shortly be over. Having spent a wonderful six months at home being 'wifely', I now have a real job. Well, I will have on Monday. I start work at a large August Institution (no, not the same one!), in town, with a small team (much smaller than my old team, which started as eight and morphed into 14 at the end) of three, working on what is euphemistically called "lights on", or, if you're old school like I is, "BAU". Woot!! I am so excited not to be working on Projects - they suck you dry, chew you up & spit you out, and I'm not willing or able, mentally or physically, to do that.
So. Having managed three (or is it four?) posts in those six months, I suspect the flow may reduce to a trickle, but it may be that having interaction with other human beings, apart from Mr Golightly and a small, very select, band of friends, may result in an outpouring of observation. Or not.
Anyway, I recall that I promised pictures of the finished Bilby...

Mr Golightly professes to like the little protuberance caused by having the gusset go right up to the chin, but I prefer the slimmer look.
So, now that I've perfected the pattern, I need to sell them. Any suggestions for price? The small ones are fiddly, the big one takes a huge amount of stuffing, but they are all gorgeous. I was thinking $20 for the little guy, but the only other thing in my shop for $20 is a doorstop and these guys are a lot more work than a doorstop.
Would you pay $25 for one of those little cuties? Come on now, I need to know!!
Ciao!
Actually, Gentle Readers, when I originally wrote this, it was Saturday at 09.49, and I was still in bed. Gasp! I worked yesterday from 0730 until 1800, which was extremely foolish for somebody still getting over the after-effects of several hours on a plane (in a plane?) and by the time I got home (1930), I was, to put it oh so bluntly, knackered.
Anyway, the lovely Mr Golightly not being one of those husbands who delight in masquerading as a martinent, I did not have to set to and make a gourmet dinner, but instead peeled off my work clothes, threw on my sloppy house clothes and flung myself, bodily, onto the sofa. I did not move again until I staggered off to bed three hours later, having watched a repeated NCIS episode, an episode of something so deeply boring it's already gone from my memory, and an episode of "Person of Interest", which I am really enjoying, and I am grateful to those people at that awful television channel (which is so awful I won't even deign to name it) for putting on again.
I woke at 0630. Typical, isn't it, that having no need to actually get up & go to work, I am wide awake, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Ick.
That said, I do have some sewing chores to do, my lovely DSSIL Miss Mandy had a birthday on Wednesday, and Miss Emma, the mother-to-be of the incomparably named, but as yet unborn Linus Libbis, had hers on Thursday. I know exactly what to make them both, but... time being somewhat scarce this week, I have done exactly zippo about it. Ahem. Amends to be made, stitches to be set. Also, pictures to be taken and posted, but that's for after.
For now, some more holiday snaps - some of the things I love about contradictory Italy...
Ciao for now!
The chair is finished, Gentle Readers, long live the chair. Also, the semester is finished, my time off is finished, and it's all out, all change.
Here's how the chair ended up looking:
I think I'm happy with it. It's for sale, if anybody wants it.
In other news, I have accepted an invitation to take up a role as the manager of a team of lovely bodies out at the August Institution, starting on 11th July. I was very flattered to be asked, especially as my last engagement with that August Body ended fairly badly (remember the mind-reading woman? One day I will tell you a very funny story about how last week I had a nice petty-minded moment of revenge at her expense, but that story's not for today!)... Although I must add for the sake of probity, I did have to go through not one, not two, but three interviews, to get the job...
I have to say my feelings about going back to real work are very mixed... I've really enjoyed just pottering round at home, being chief cook and bottle-washer, making nice dinners (some days) and having time on the weekends just to spend with Mr Golightly, without the spectre of washing & housework hanging over us, but I have told Mr G that the cleaner, who has of course been coming along very quietly for the last 9 months, will be coming in full view now. His only comment was "better put your good teapots away then". What an easy victory that was!
And now, Gentle Readers, I am going to lie down in front of the fire with my copy of "Icefalcon's Quest", by one of my favourite authors, Barbara Hambly, and eat cheese. What more could you ask for on a Sunday afternoon?
Ciao!
